DC is already making terrible preparations for the next Justice League film.

Although the DCU is still in its early stages, the series is already experimenting with the Justice League in Creature Commandos. It’s difficult to discern a clear plan for characters like the Justice League, even though James Gunn is establishing a brand-new superhero franchise to compete with the MCU. Although it could have a significant impact on the future event schedule, Gunn has stated that he wants to ensure that every script and story is flawless before moving forward with casting and attaching directors.

For example, Superman is scheduled to hit theaters in July 2025, but Batman is still awaiting a script, even though the two movies were announced simultaneously in January 2023. Furthermore, Gunn has stated that Superman was not created with any intention of establishing future plots. While that may be admirable, it seems like at least some thought should be given to the future when creating a common universe. Regarding the Justice League, however, there is more going on in the current DCU canon that is making matters worse.

The Justice League cameo makes no sense because Peacemaker is DCU canon.
Already, the DCU Canon is a complicated mess.

It was doubtful that Gunn, who wrote and created Peacemaker, would abandon the effort he put into creating season 1. Instead, he is creating season 2 and has made the argument that the DCU’s canon is somewhat flexible, with references and mentions becoming canon. However, it would seem that Peacemaker season 1 is now formally canon since the show receives a second season that continues where the first left off, and Circe makes a fleeting appearance in Creature Commandos episode 4 when she reveals her vision.

However, four of the Justice League’s main players made some significant appearances as season one came to a close. Peacemaker is well aware of these heroes, as seen by the arrival of Aquaman, Wonder Woman, Superman, and the Flash shortly after Peacemaker and the gang took care of business. Will that moment, however, be forgotten, altered, or just ignored? In any event, it is uncomfortable to act as though it never occurred.

The Justice League is killed by Creature Commandos, and a helpless Pokolistani princess defeats them.

Then, in the fourth episode of Creature Commandos, Circe sees Princess Ilana as a formidable menace who is attempting to conquer the entire world. According to legend, this human woman, who governs a small nation devoid of sophisticated technology, is able to collaborate with another supervillain, Gorilla Grodd, to defeat the entire Justice League. Unless the Justice League is extremely weak, it doesn’t make sense.

Even in a vision that is nearly certain to be rewritten, the problem with eliminating the Justice League at such an early stage is that it severely undervalues the heroes who are supposed to be the greatest in the universe. Yes, it raises the stakes for characters like the Creature Commandos and helps show how serious the threat is, but this doesn’t really contribute to the Justice League’s value if there is no forward-thinking. Additionally, the DCU must treat the tent pole heroes better if it hopes to succeed with the shared universe concept.

Insults Are Not Enough to Support the Justice League in the DCU

The Justice League is considered to be one of the greatest superheroes.

Some of the most influential people in any fictional novel make up the Justice League. They stand tall among men as a group of godlike creatures who inspire, defend, and safeguard the rest of the earth. Additionally, there is a hugely devoted fan following for these characters, which leads to strong reactions to how they are portrayed in different media. Fans will therefore not be pleased if the DCU treats them poorly.

The DCU may be in for a lot of problems if it doesn’t start planning ahead, considering how these storylines will affect one another and how employing the greatest heroes as a plot point in an animated series that centers on a number of relatively unknown characters could potentially harm the heroes. The DCU has the opportunity to do things correctly, but the DCEU’s version of the heroes didn’t fare well, arguing and fighting to establish common ground after being brought together with little to no prior development. They still have time to change this if they can learn from Creature Commandos’s error of exploiting the Justice League as drama bait.
