Jennifer Love Hewitt has had many iconic roles, but playing Julie James from 1997’s I Know What You Did Last Summer turned her into the ultimate final girl. After surviving two films in the slasher franchise, she will make her return in the upcoming legacy sequel.
Hewitt won’t be the only original star to return for the I Know What You Did Last Summer legacy sequel. Freddie Prinze Jr. will also reprise his role as Ray Bronson, as the two were the only survivors of the first film, and later reprized their roles in the 1998 sequel. The new I Know What You Did Last Summer will premiere in July, and, ahead of its release, Hewitt shared a funny video on Instagram, hyping the release.
The funny skit sees Hewitt doing regular things around the house, but she’s never alone. The mysterious Hook Man killer is there to catch her no matter what she is doing. As she folds laundry, dances around the house, and even uses the killer’s hook to hang her jacket, Hewitt is unbothered about the mysterious killer trying to get her.

The film’s director, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, tries to warn her, writing, “Behind you!!!” At some point, she even acknowledges him, telling Hook Man, “You’ve got to stop doing this. The movie is not out yet,” she says with a high. “Go.”
At the end of the video, fans got the plot twist they never would’ve expected: Hewitt and Hook Man were enjoying a romantic date and almost kissed at the end. “Just doing day-to-day things and waiting for I Know What You Did Last Summer to come out July 18th!” the actor wrote in the caption, with a series of hook emojis. The official account for the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer movie wrote, “How do you deal?!” with a hook emoji.
A new trailer for the legacy sequel was recently released which further details the story. I Know What You Did Last Summer will introduce a new member to the group, and follow five friends who get into an accident, try to cover it up, and receive threatening letters later. The new group includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Hauer-King.
The sequel will also bring back some of the remaining survivors, Ray and Julie. The new trailer also pays homage to Julie James’ iconic “What are you waiting for?” line, and has the original survivors help the new group. Ahead of the theatrical premiere, Sony Pictures also introduced character posters for everyone. “Ray, your history won’t save you,” reads the one for Prinze’s Ray. “Julie, your experience won’t save you,” says the one for Hewitt.
The one for Gabriette’s Tyler reads, “Your facts won’t save you.” Joshua Hauer-King’s Milo reads, “Your kindness won’t save you.” Sarah Pidgeon’s Stevie says, “Your guilt won’t save you.” The one for Tyriq Withers’ Teddy says, “Your money won’t save you.” Madelyn Cline’s Danica says, “Your popularity won’t save you.” And Chase Sui Wonders’ Ava reads, “Your good intentions won’t save you.”
